Is my fetus growing? Is my baby the correct size and weight? How can I tell if my fetus is developing correctly?
I am sure you have seen the doctor, but sometimes you have these concerns and want immediate answers. That is totally normal, I remember feeling that way myself. I wanted to know my fetus was developing well, at the right rate, I wanted to feel my baby move just so I would feel better and stop worrying.
These feelings are quite normal. We hear so much about miscarriage and miscarriage rates do seem to be rising. You will probably have no problems with your pregnancy, but that doesn't stop a mom-to-be from worrying sometimes.
One of the more nerve-wracking times is around 13 weeks or when your morning sickness stops and you are feeling less of the symptoms of pregnancy. It is rather strange but lots of times those symptoms (especially the nausea) helps us to "feel better" emotionally. We think "my baby must be fine because I feel terrible". That isn't always true, but we do tend to comfort ourselves with that thought.
Remember that at 12 weeks your baby if fully formed, all the organs including the heart, kidneys and liver. Your placenta is being developed. Now your baby can begin growing even more. You are about to start the phase of rapid fetus growth.
One of the ultrasound screenings that we love to do, and that will bring you lots of peace is the
Fetal Measurements screening. It is so much fun for myself and our trained technicians to perform this screening and to take the measurements. Not only is it exciting, and documenting and easy-to-follow growth pattern, but we love helping new moms feel more at ease about their pregnancies. We have done countless ultrasound screenings and it is always fun for us. But the most important thing is our professionalism. Over the years, having done so many 3d and 4d ultrasounds we have seen many problems and have learned "beyond our training" some of the things to watch for. We highly encourage all pregnant ladies to get ultrasounds, either from their doctor, or, and in addition, have us perform one for you.
Ultrasounds are completely safe, they do not affect the mother or the baby so having them done in-between your doctor appointments makes a lot so sense.
